The event was attended by media representatives, industry leaders, and professionals, including notable figures from the US Embassy in Ghana, the Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, and the Director of Finance and Administration at Ghana Dot Com, among others. They gathered to witness the inauguration of this significant initiative. The summit was inaugurated to mark the beginning of a journey that aims to equip youth with the skills and platforms necessary for economic empowerment in today’s digital age.

Preparing the youth for the online future

The event began with a welcome address by the Director of Mobile Web Ghana, Florence Toffa. During her address, she emphasized the organization’s strong commitment to equipping young people with essential digital skills. “In today’s digital economy, our youth need more than just traditional job opportunities. They need to be prepared for the future, and that future is online.”

The event’s special guest, Liza Steger, Regional Public Engagement Specialist at the US Embassy in Ghana, underscored the significance of online work and its alignment with the American Space’s mission of skill-building and fostering sustainable opportunities for young people. She stressed that the initiative is both timely and crucial, empowering youth with digital skills to pave the way for a more prosperous and innovative Africa. Her remarks garnered enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Upcoming July virtual summit

Florence Toffa also provided a comprehensive overview of the Online Work Africa Summit, outlining its objectives and stressing the pressing need for organizations to join forces in tackling youth unemployment through online work opportunities. With 912 participants already registered, the virtual summit, scheduled for July 23rd to 24th, 2024, promises engaging sessions led by seasoned experts, practical workshops covering various online work domains, and valuable networking prospects. Participants will explore diverse work avenues, connect with industry professionals and mentors, and gain insights into freelancing, e-commerce, online tutoring, remote jobs, content creation, and more.

To bring the initiative’s vision to fruition, the audience listened to inspiring stories from individuals who have achieved economic empowerment through online work. The event went beyond speeches and presentations. It included a lively Q&A session where participants’ concerns regarding online job payments and withdrawal processes were addressed. This interactive segment highlighted the practical challenges faced by online workers and underscored the summit’s commitment to offering comprehensive support to its participants.

New Avenues

The Online Work Africa Summit transcends being merely an event; it represents an initiative poised to forge a sustainable future for Africa’s youth. Mobile Web Ghana and its partners are dedicated to opening new avenues of opportunity and driving economic growth for youth through this summit.
